FAQ
Q: Does the I/O size of my application reads and writes affect the rate of IOPS I get from my ioSTOR volumes?
Yes, it does. When you provision ioSTOR volumes, the IOPS rate you get depends on the I/O size of your application reads and writes.
ioSTOR volumes have a base I/O size of 16KB. So, if you have provisioned a volume with ioSTOR-1000, it will achieve up to 1000 IOPS at 16KB of IO.
If the I/O size is increased, then you might not achieve 1000 IOPS.
Q: What factors can affect the performance consistency I see with ioSTOR volumes?
One factor that can impact your ioSTOR volumes performances is if your application isn’t sending enough I/O requests.
Sometimes this is due to inadequate resources. Lack of vCPU or RAM can be the bottle neck.
Q: Does VM can only have one tier of ioSTOR?
VM can have more than one type of ioSTOR. You can configure it on each VM disk setting.
Q: If I need to change or upgrade ioSTOR tier, how possible is it?
Upgrading or downgrading ioSTOR type is possible and you can do it on VM disk setting without any downtime. Having said that, after you purchase new upgraded ioSTOR type on MyAccount portal, it will be available for you to choose on VM disk setting. Please refers to Assign ioSTOR to VM guide document to help your further.
Q: How to measure IOPS performance?
You may follow this instructions to Measuring IOPS Performance to help you check and measure read and write performance on your storage.
