A snapshot preserves the state and data of a virtual machine at a specific point in time. Snapshots are usually used to back up the VM before making any changes in the VM, when the changes made turn out to be errors then we can restore the VM to the beginning before the changes were made using a snapshot (Revert to snapshot).
In this article we will discuss how to create a snapshot on a VM that is on Zettagrid.
Preparation
- Login to Cloud Director
- VDC must have extra storage remains to store snapshot. Usually amount of storage need is as many as VM disk.
Guide
1. Log into the cloud director. Select the virtual machine menu on the left. Click the three dots on the VM that will be perform snapshot.
2. Select snapshot and click create snapshot
3. After clicking create snapshot a pop up will appear as follows, click create
4. To check whether the snapshot has been successfully created, it can be seen on the virtual machine dashboard and in the snapshot column there is a check mark
5. And you can see the detailed snapshot (date and usage disk) on the vm as follow
